Responsibilities:
The Housing Code Enforcement office responsibilities include maintaining a database of registered apartment/multiple housing landlords and occupants; yearly inspections and applicable fees. A Certificate of Occupancy and License must be obtained before renting an apartment or home in the City of Beverly. This office is also responsible for inspections of all homes being sold within the City. A Certificate of Occupancy must be obtained before a new owner may occupy the home. The criteria used for all inspections are the township ordinances and state regulations, as well as the BOCA codes and all updates (Building Officials Code Administration Handbook and Guidelines) which have been adopted by the City of Beverly. Inspections are done to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all residents.
Enforcement of Beverly City codes as they apply to maintenance of property (trash collection, grass, weeds, trees, etc.). If a resident observes an obvious complaint in their neighborhood, they may call the office to report the problem, leaving all pertinent information, or come in to the office to fill out a Property Maintenance Inspection Report (anonymous complaints remain so, but are investigated.)
